Our first fruit came in on the 18th January and here we are on the 18th March almost finished. We’re getting some hand picked Shiraz in today and hoping for some nice warm weather over the next few days to finish ripening our Cabernet Franc and Mataro which are famously late ripeners. I have to say the 5mm of rain that came last night (accompanied by gale force winds and power outages) were less than ideal but wouldn’t it be boring if everything was perfect?
So far the quality of this vintage has been fantastic, the Shiraz that we’ve seen coming in is exceptional as are the other reds and whites. Once the last crush is done it’ll be time to get all the wine we’ve already made for 2016 back out of barrel for a racking and a second look – can’t wait!
