After giving us all more than a few stressful moments over the last couple of months the weather has been as kind as it possibly could be for this time of the year. The 30mm of rain at the end of January worked wonders to refresh the vines and the subsequent run of moderate warm weather and really cool nights (I even had to break out a sweater one early vintage morning last week) has helped our precious grapes ripen at a most genteel pace.
This has meant a well spaced run of picking that has seen our Tempranillo coming in (and looking beautiful), followed by some of our earlier Shiraz blocks with great flavour, colour and tannin. Much more Shiraz is due for next week along with our Merlot and then it will be on to the Johnny Come Lately’s of the grape world: Cabernets, Grenache and Mataro. All is looking good, let’s hope Mother Nature continues to be kind!
